Aalto 2021 Magnum (1.5 L) is a red wine from Spain's Ribera del Duero DO, produced by Bodegas Aalto from 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) sourced from old vines aged between 40 and 80 years. The 2021 vintage stands out for its balance, freshness, and outstanding ageing potential.

The Magnum (1.5 L) format promotes slower bottle ageing, allowing the wine to develop greater complexity while enhancing its longevity. It pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, roast lamb, game dishes, suckling pig, hearty stews, and aged cheeses.

Nose:
Profound aromas of ripe black fruit, blackberries, and plums, accompanied by violets, licorice, spices, cocoa, and toasted balsamic notes.
Mouth:
Powerful, silky, and concentrated. Fine and well-integrated tannins with great structure, freshness, and balance. Long, elegant, and persistent finish with mineral and spicy hints.

Description:

Vineyards located in nine different municipalities on the banks of Burgos and Valladolid.

Age:
Between 40 and 80 years.
Weather:

Continental. The vintage began with the Filomena storm, with heavy snowfall and very low temperatures. Spring had frost in mid-April and in May the vines budded. In September the storms favored optimal ripening of the grapes.

Vinification:

Manual harvest in 15 kilogram boxes.

Aged for 17 months in French and American oak barrels.

The Wine Advocate:
The eponymous red 2021 Aalto has a lactic touch and is spicy, smoky and ripe, with notes of barbecued duck, soy sauce and a touch of truffle. It's heady, ripe (14.5% alcohol), has a luxurious mouthfeel and is glossy and juicy, with abundant but fine-grained tannins and low-ish acidity. For fans of the style. Quite consistent across vintages. 330,000 bottles. It was bottled in July 2023.

Tim Atkin:
Antonio Moral blends grapes from nine different villages in Burgos and Valladolid to produce this pan-Ribera del Duero Tinto Fino, ageing the result in 50% new wood. It's a Médocmeets-Castilla-y-León style of wine in many ways: ripe, glossy and slightly international in style, with plum, fig and bramble fruit flavours, scented mocha oak and a fresh, balanced finish. Classy stuff. 2026-36
