DOMAINE FERRET Pouilly Fuisse 2022
The Domaine J.-A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé 2022 is one of the estate's signature wines, designed to express the diversity of the Fuissé terroir within a single cuvée. It is produced from a blend of numerous vineyard parcels situated around Fuissé's natural amphitheatre, combining clay, limestone and granite-influenced soils.
The vines have an average age of approximately 40 years, although some parcels contain considerably older vines. The geological diversity of Fuissé plays an essential role in shaping the character of the wine.
The clay-rich soils provide body, richness and roundness; the granite-influenced sites contribute delicacy and finesse; while limestone soils bring tension, freshness and the distinctive mineral and saline qualities of the wine.
2022 was a warm and dry vintage in Burgundy. At Domaine Ferret, harvesting began on 22 August and continued for approximately ten days.
Despite the warm, sunny growing season, the grapes retained a good balance between ripeness and acidity. The resulting wine combines concentration and generosity with sufficient freshness and mineral tension.
The different vineyard parcels are vinified separately. Components originating from granite-based soils are largely handled in tank, while wines from marl, clay and limestone soils are partly fermented and matured in oak.
The aim of the élevage is to provide texture, breadth and complexity rather than obvious oak character. As a result, the finished wine retains a clear expression of fruit and terroir.
Compared with a classic Chablis, it generally offers greater body, ripeness and texture, while Domaine Ferret's style retains sufficient tension and minerality to preserve elegance and precision.
Although already enjoyable, the 2022 has sufficient structure to develop positively for several years.
In one sentence: a generous yet precise Burgundy Chardonnay, combining peach, pear and citrus with fresh almond, a creamy texture, subtle oak and pronounced chalky and saline minerality that brings freshness, elegance and length.
